On Speed
Crash, crash
Thud, thud
Lives speed-ed up
Whirling around
A distracting hub
Of meaningless behavior
Don’t think for yourself
How dare you!
Especially about a spirit?
Ignore, ignore
The impertinent chore
Of believing in
A Savior!
Believe every word they say
To guide both night & day
Allow that talk show host
Over you to hold complete sway!
Until he fails to break
The enlightened spell
& you at last awake
Yourself to embrace
In your Lord/Creator
A cleaner, purer faith!
How?
How do You see
Someone as small as
Me
But somehow You do
& as I gaze up at You
You smile down
I am your creation,
Your child
Launched into paradise
But by our own hands
It became quite wild
Restless, lawless
Open rebellion
Our great fall
You tell upon
The pages of
Your Book
Wandering lost
In pain
Why do we repeat
Over & over again
All that old evil
All that old same
So inside I must look
For guidance
For a better hinderance
To my lost behavior
& so, You gave me
Your Son, my Savior
Praise You Lord God!
Return to me
I will return to you
So, each day I try to follow
That my re-birth
May be renewed!!
Hunger
That hunger
Pushing, driving
Telling me
Something is wrong
So strong,
No matter how much
Of the world I ingest
Still somehow lingers
Distrust
Still I need,
Long for
At times I know now what
So, I continue
To eat from the world
Each of every day’s
Beginning & end
Searching, taking in
Until I say no more
I will buy no longer
From your unlimited store
Of meaningless things
Then I stand, still
And realize
That you lie
This world will
Never completely
Satisfy
Reach up
Search for God’s face
His unending grace
Only that love will
Fill up, supply
Those inner recesses
Now threatening to die
From a world’s wearying
Provision
Oh, Lord,
Help me to make
A better decision!
I love the walk along our city’s greenway. It’s right on the river, and you get to hear the water and all the animals, bugs and sights that go along with all of the place. Here’s only a short video of some of the sight and sounds I managed to capture along with a short poem. Hope you enjoy!
Summer Sounds
Oh the joy of those
Summer sounds
Of water, birds, bugs
All types of critters on the ground
Of water roaring in its strength
Or just a lazier hot day’s trickle
Of this I will not dare to be fickle
I love all of this summer’s show
Try to take a break
From your daily rush
Do not let this world
On your soul’s wellbeing
Force a wearing attrition
Take the time to just listen
To your sweet Summer’s Sounds!
Confused??
Why do we abuse?
Are we really
So confused
As to what we are?
Lies fly all around
Covering even the ground
Underneath my feet they crunch
Leaving me full?
Not so much
From an ancient hillside
The truths they flow
Rivers gushing of purest gold
Washing, seeking,
Purging each struggling,
Dying soul
Only within
Christ’s outstretched
Hand
Lies the glory, truth of
His promised land
Under His feet
Confusion flees
Before your face
You will see
All lies die
They will end
As He rushes in
New life
New world
As only God can send

A Stupor
In a stupor
We walk
Unaware
As we stare
Blindly
At a world
Only physical
We think
But if you blink
In only one small wink
You can awake
Supernatural
All around
Those beings
Angels to do
His bidding
demons always trying
their own way
To be winning
After walking
On His planet
He left behind
Upon it
A few
Who were
Awake
Then more followed
Until it was
More & more
Now upon
The near & so distant
Shores
More eyes
Hearts wakened
So join
A growing crowd
Even if
You have to shout
To tell what it is
About
Before
It is too late
& their stupor
We cannot abate
As those who
Are now awake
most patiently
await
His return
