A Puzzle
(I do not understand)

It is a puzzle
I confess I do not understand
Why such a great &
Beautiful land
Would leave its heritage
Behind

As in Jeremiah
Before God destroyed
His people
‘Has a nation ever changed
Its gods?
(Yet they are not gods at all)
But my people have exchanged
Their Glorious God
For worthless idols’ Jeremiah 2:11
of expensive cars
large houses
endless hours of
pleasure seeking

and worst of all
money
When the decrees of
The Lord
Are sweeter than honey?
By them we will 
Be judged
Bear me no grudge
For these my words
But they are true

So I pray for a turning
Away 
From all these
Worthless idols
Of only clay
To the One True Lord
In whom is stored
Kept, prepared
For His true believers
Above endlessly blue skies
His unending Paradise!!

Not OK

On our own,
We are not OK
In our own power
Not for one second,
Or one hour
Will we ever be
Or see
Salvation, redemption

Only by the blinding light
From above
Drenched in eternity’s love
Can the dark in us 
Ever be overcome
Only HIS SPIRIT can we trust
To do that job

We are too weak
From sin
Only in prayer
On our knees 
Will we win 
Any battle with
the satan

SO KILL OFF
THE OLD SELF
If you truly wish to see
That transformation
Only Christ can bring
So allowed you will be
With true Joy to say 
‘It is not I that lives
But Christ that lives in me!’

What is this sense of loss
Of a deep sadness,
Despair
Then I raise my head
To look at You
& You smile!
And my heart is even 
More beguiled
And enticed
To follow You

But I am stuck
On the other side of 
An uncrossable chasm
For I know on my own
I cannot 
Even begin to start
To conquer its deep gorges
A dark fog envelops 
My mind & heart

Then someone touches
Down with a hand
It is Your Son of Man
His blood paved the way
Because I was oh so lost
Until He reached across
So on this dark side
I need never stay
Alone, rejected digressing
From your eternal blessings

Christ is that bridge
That eternal ridge
Of hope & joy
For everyone to cross
Over into God’s love
You do not have to sit in
The darkness of eternal loss
But you must take that first step 
Reach for the outstretched hand
Of the undying Son of Man!

Outside the Church

Four walls can a prison make
But prison bars confine
Limit access, restrict body & the mind
However, access to the Sublime
Was never meant to be denied
To anyone

Christ, God, Holy Spirit
Do not just exist, live
In a building one day a week
His name, face, presence
Everywhere we may seek

So His name do not speak
Only in a building
Say it out loud everywhere
Stores, neighbors, from your office chair
Say His name out loud
Be it to one person only
or in a denser crowd

Just say it with great joy
His name is oh so dearly needed
satan’s darkness it has the power to destroy
At one word, CHRIST,
The demons flee,
Fall & tremble on their knees

Carry Him out of that church building
Be His witness, messenger, everywhere
To others His great love, surpassing joy
You will be privileged to share 
Be His hands, His feet, His mouth, His heart
Give to others His glorious, new, fresh start
